Make Your Own Shaving Cream
I was brainstorming a frugal Father’s Day gift idea and someone in our office mentioned making a basket of goodies for dad. We immediately thought shaving cream, razors, treats, etc. Then, I started thinking about how we could make it even cheaper by making our own goodies. I’ve been on a quest for the last week searching through different recipes for making your own shaving cream and I found one that I really like.
Keep in mind, this is a cream not a foam so it’s a little thicker than the normal foam-like stuff if you’re used to buying that. Normally, if I run out of shaving cream, I use conditioner. Yep, it’s full of moisture and works really well. In fact, I actual prefer conditioner over my usual cream. It is not surprising then that conditioner is one of the ingredients in the DIY version of shaving cream.
Make Your Own Shaving Cream
- 1/2 Cup Shampoo
- 1/2 Conditioner
- 1 TBS Coconut Oil
- 1 TBS Unscented Body/Hand Lotion
Directions: For the men, be sure to use men’s shampoo & conditioner. That will help with the scent while you shave!
Melt the coconut oil in the microwave for about 15 seconds or so and mix it with the shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. You’ll want to use unscented lotion so you don’t make an odd scent mixture when it combines with the shampoo/conditioner.
I used my 40% off coupon for Hobby Lobby and bought the container, I found it in the soap making aisle.
For dads, make up a bottle of this shaving cream and throw it in with a tin of razors! It’s a cute, frugal Father’s Day gift!
