Sensory-Friendly Events for Kids in Tulsa

Some children need a calmer environment in order to fully enjoy what a venue has to offer. Here are some sensory-friendly events in Tulsa, as well as some events for children on the autism spectrum.

Sensory-Friendly Hours at Discovery Lab

  • When: The 2nd Sunday of each month, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Where: Discovery Lab, 3123 S. Riverside Dr.

Discovery Lab opens early for families with children on the spectrum and other sensory needs.

Teen Connection

  • When: The last Wednesday of the month, 4:30-6 p.m.
  • Where: Tulsa ARC, 2516 E. 71st St. St. A

Social group for middle and high school students with high functioning autism. Activities include board and video games where they can practice positive social skills with others that have similar interests. For more information, contact Sherilyn Walton at 918-582-8272.

Sensory Skate Sunday

  • When: The first Sunday of each Month, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Where: Wheels and Thrills, 10637 N. Garnett Rd., Owasso

Join Wheels and Thrills  for Sensory Skate Sunday!

  • No Flashing Lights
  • No Loud Music
  • Arcade and Laser Tag suspended

Your $7 admission includes: Skating and skate rental, a skate mate, playzone and sensory activities.

OKAQ Sensory Night

  • When: The first Tuesday of the month, 6-8 p.m.
  • Where: Oklahoma Aquarium, 300 Aquarium Dr., Jenks

The fun kicks off at 6 p.m. when you pick up your self-guided scavenger hunt! Explore the aquarium and turn in your completed scavenger hunt to choose a sensory toy from the treasure chest! Free with daily admission.

Sensory Hours at Slick City Tulsa

  • When: The third Thursday of the month, 6:30-8 p.m.
  • Where: Slick City Tulsa, 5352 E. Skelly Dr.

Calm Gatherings + Contender eSports Time

Calm Gatherings of Tulsa hosts a monthly, 2-hour session of game play at Contender eSports. Contender eSports opens early for these events, and the Girl Scouts donate cookies. Follow @CalmGatheringsofTulsa on Facebook for times and registration details.

Sensory Sensitive Sundays at Chuck E. Cheese 

Chuck E. Cheese opens two hours early on the first Sunday of the month. There is dimmed lighting, reduced noise levels and a calm atmosphere.

Sensory Friendly Films at AMC Theaters

AMC Theaters host Sensory Friendly Films on the second and fourth Saturday of the month (these are family-friendly), and Wednesday evenings (for mature audiences). See more details and the schedule at amctheatres.com/programs/sensory-friendly-films

Sensory Friendly Films at Cinergy Tulsa

One Saturday a month, starting at 11:30 a.m., Cinergy will present a family friendly film in an auditorium dedicated to guests affected by autism and sensory sensitivities.

These showings will feature brightened light levels, reduced sound volume, and room for guest interaction and movement.

My Way Matinee – Regal Warren Broken Arrow

Resource: Ascension St. John Family Den at Tulsa Zoo

Families visiting the Tulsa Zoo can take advantage of the Ascension St. John Family Den Nursing and Quiet Space. “The 900-square-foot facility features a dedicated space for nursing mothers, a quiet room for families affected by autism or sensory processing disorders, a family restroom, as well as a restroom with an adult changing table.” Learn more here.
