1. Furries in the Classroom

Of all the new articles we published in TulsaKids Magazine this year, Dr. Tamecca Rogers’ column covering House Bill 3084 – which would “explicitly ban students who claim to be an imaginary animal or animal species or engage in anthropomorphic behavior commonly associated with furries from participating in school curricula or activities” – caught a lot of  eyes.

2. Oklahoma Travel Tips

Who doesn’t love planning a road trip – whether or not you actually see your plans come to pass. Sometimes, it’s fun just to dream! Tara Rittler’s summer travel article gives fun destination suggestions both in Tulsa and further away in Oklahoma for a variety of activities, from gardens to museums and more.

3. Brittany Stokes: Let’s Hear It For the Girls

Nancy A. Moore always interviews fascinating people making a difference for our Green Country Grown-up Column. This interview with Brittany Stokes, founder of Tulsa Girls’ Home, was a particular standout.

4. Dr. Amy Emerson: A Heart Full of Hope

Another Green Country Grown-up article, in this one, Dr. Amy Emerson talks about Hope-Driven Parenting, “a program designed to empower parents and caregivers to raise thriving children who become healthy adults.”

5. CAP Tulsa: More than Daycare

This article, written by Michele Chiapetta, shines a light on CAP Tulsa and the important work they do: providing high-quality early childhood education to disadvantaged children.

1. Eldest Daughter Syndrome (Grand Life)

Diane Morrow-Kondos writes about grandparenting, disabilities and family life in her Grand Life blog. This particular post took a look at “eldest daughter syndrome” – what happens when the oldest daughter is expected to take on added responsibilities as a child.

2. Are Baby Boomers Terrible Grandparents? (Grand Life)

Diane also has a knack for tackling both timely topics and topics that are perpetually relevant. In this article, she reacts to the “social media war” between baby boomers and their millennial children – specifically, when it comes to grandparenting responsibilities.

3. Taco Tuesday and Other Tulsa Meal Deals (Spaghetti on the Wall)

Inspired by a visit to Holé Molé, Tara Rittler shares about some local meal deals. If you haven’t been to Holé Molé’s new Cherry Street location, it’s festively decorated for the holidays – and their $3 Taco Tuesday special (which comes with fresh chips and salsa) is hard to beat!

4. Tulsa’s Big Dam Party Starts Today (Editor’s Blog)

So many Tulsans were excited for the opening of Zink Lake, Tulsa Wave Park and the new Williams Crossing Pedestrian Bridge. Plus, Gathering Place expanded its riverfront access as well. Betty Casey covered the Big Dam Party celebrating this momentous occasion.

5. A Taylor Swift-Inspired Snack for the Big Game (Editor’s Blog)

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were on everyone’s minds – if you were on social media at all, it was hard to avoid mention of them! – especially leading up to the Kansas City Chief’s Superbowl appearance in February 2024. Betty Casey shared this timely and tasty recipe for chicken tender roll-ups.

This 2023 blog post by Diane Morrow-Kondos was our second most-read article of 2024, with nearly 20,000 pageviews. Good dads listen, treat their children’s mother with respect, show up for both big and little things, etc.

3. Age-Appropriate Books to Talk to Your Kids About Sex

Originally published in 2012 (and since updated), this article has been helping parents from far beyond Tulsa find resources for having this important, ongoing discussion with their kids.
