I’m a Tulsa Kid: Lauren Conway

Ballet is known for its difficulty and discipline, but eighth-grader Lauren Conway makes it seem effortless and beautiful. Dancing to the beat of her dreams, Lauren can be seen this year performing in Tulsa Ballet’s The Nutcracker.
TK: When did you start dancing?
Lauren: I started dance classes when I was 3 years old. When I was 8, I became serious about it and started training at Tulsa Ballet.
TK: How does it feel to be performing in The Nutcracker?
Lauren: I love performing the The Nutcracker because it’s really cool to get to dance with professional company members and see how a big show comes together! I also love getting to dance with my friends and experience the Christmas magic.
TK: Have you ever performed in The Nutcracker before?
Lauren: I am in the Intermediate Ballet II, which is part of the Tulsa Ballet Center for Dance Education’s Upper School, so I’ve had the opportunity to play a Mouse and Party Girl before. This year I will get to play Marie!
TK: What inspires you and your dancing?
Lauren: The difficulty of ballet inspires me to keep doing it because you can never be perfect, and there’s is always something you can work on.
TK: Do you have any advice for aspiring dancers?
Lauren: Advice that I have for aspiring dancers would be to never give up and always be yourself!
TK: What other hobbies do you have?
Lauren: When I’m not doing ballet, I like to play my violin and spend time outside.
TK: What are your plans and goals for the future?
Lauren: My goals for the future would be to get in to a ballet company as well as travel the world, because I love seeing different places and experiencing new things.
TK: What is a fun fact about you?
Lauren: A fun fact about me is that I love spending time with my friends and family, and I would like to go skydiving someday!
