Green Country Grown-Ups: Tawni Herburger

Fashion is is Tulsa mom's passion.

If one of your New Year’s Resolutions in 2015 is to look more put together without busting your budget, then look no further than locally owned Tawnini Boutique. This stylish boutique, located at 1336 E. 41st, offers an excellent selection of clothing and accessories. In fact, my new favorite necklace is one I purchased there for $10. Being a mom herself, Tawni Herburger provides a  hip, yet kid-friendly atmosphere, offering items like toys and coloring books to occupy kids while parents shop. Customers who know Tawni  find her to be upbeat, energetic and helpful. It is apparent that she enjoys personally meeting her customers and helping them find exactly the right item.

About Tawni Herburger

TK: How did you become interested in selling clothes and accessories?

Tawni: I’ve always been interested and fascinated with clothes and putting outfits together since I was small. I took a leap of faith in 2008 by moving from my job in the banking industry to fashion. It started slowly with home clothing parties and online sales. I grew so quickly in such a short period of time that I decided to open a store in 2013. The store is an excellent venue for the personal attention that I like to provide.
TK: What do you enjoy most about being a small business owner in Tulsa?

Tawni: Tulsa has such a great vibe, and I feel that it is not so large of a city that a small  business might get lost; plus, I love working with ladies in Tulsa. My customers make it so worthwhile.
TK: Describe your personal style:

Tawni: I would say a mix between boho and rock.

FAMILY TIME

TK: What does your family enjoy about living in Tulsa?

Tawni: We love Tulsa! We like that it offers a city scene without the big city headache. And Tulsa is a beautiful place to live and has great people.

TK: What are your favorite things to do around Tulsa when you’re not at work?

Tawni: We love eating out and discovering new restaurants. A few favorites around town are In The Raw on Brookside, McGill’s, Stonehorse at Utica Square and Juniper. We also enjoy being outside. One of our favorite family outings with our son Rhett – dogs included – is to go to Woodward Park.

TK: In what ways does your family contribute to your business?

Tawni: This pertains most to my husband, Kip. He is the most supportive husband anyone could ask for. He’s my rock, my advisor, and my #1 fan. I couldn’t ask for a better support system. When my son, Rhett, visits the store, he also likes to be my “big helper.”

TAWNINI BOUTIQUE

TK: What is unique about your store?

Tawni: Tawnini is unique because we offer on-trend, quality fashion at affordable prices. Plus, I strive to provide a personal shopping experience for my customers.
TK: What kinds of items do you sell in the store?

Tawni: I choose tasteful trends that are going to be in fashion for the season. I strive to offer a mix of items that suit various fashion needs while, at the same time, keeping pieces unique.

TK: What style trends do you see coming up in the New Year?

Tawni: Looking toward spring, styles will include: palm trees, picnic plaid prints, fringe, cold shoulder tops, scalloped edges, ribbon belts, big floral prints, baby bell bottoms and prison stripes. The hot color palette offers various shades of blues, greens and browns along with pops of gray, pink, tangerine and yellow.
TK: What is the one thing that every woman needs in her closet?

Tawni: Every woman needs a great-fitting pair of jeans. It’s amazing how great you can feel about yourself in the right jeans.
TK: I follow your boutique on Instagram (Tawnini) and enjoy seeing your fashionable posts. What do you think about when putting an outfit together?

Tawni: I like to feature new pieces in the store. It also depends on what I’m feeling for the day. Some days I’m all over a certain color scheme. Right now I‘m crazy about navy and black together.
