COVID-19: The Impact on Small Businesses

The Tulsa community is filled with local shops that make our consumer experience special. When you shop local, you get to know the families that own the business. What is going on currently with our economy is already impacting businesses both big and small. But I want to focus on the small businesses. The ones that make Tulsa unique. These shop owners work hard to provide a shop-local option to support their families. They give our community a unique shopping experience.

Due to so many events being canceled – concerts, classes and the list goes on – people are trying to find a new normal. I am trying to find a balance of taking precautions while still maintaining some normalcy. There are ways that today we can support a business in Tulsa. Before you take that next trip to Target, consider another choice. Sure, they offer curbside pickup. But guess what? Call your favorite local business today, and I have no doubt they would do the same. In the past 24 hours, I of course did not have the capacity to call every local business in town. But I do know the following businesses are all providing numerous options to shop local.

Adorn

Adorn staff

Whitney who owns Adorn is offering curbside pick up, local delivery and shipping. You can call the store or send an email to place your order. Whitney is an expert in gifting and can personally help you create the best custom gifting options. Or you can treat yourself with something for your home. Individuals who feel comfortable can still shop the traditional way of stopping by and viewing the beautiful new flower display that is outside her entry way.

Lolly Garden’s Owners

The owners of the Lolly Garden offer alternative shopping services all year. But this is a great time for a reminder of all the ways to shop this local kids clothing store. This Utica Square gem will take orders on the phone or email. The staff will bring orders out to your car, drop off locally or ship anywhere in the USA.  Families often call from out of state to order gifts after a baby is born. Lolly Garden has clothing options for newborn to tweens. We all know kids grow out of things in a blink of an eye. So if you are at home right now and know your kids are in need of some new shoes, shirts, accessories or deserve a new book, call Charla and she will get this off of your to-do list.

Kiddlestix Toy Store

Kiddlestix Toy Store is the ultimate stop for kids toys. With the thought that my kids may be home for awhile, I will be stocking up on items from this store. If you have an upcoming birthday celebration or you are rewarding your child for a great report card, stop by and see Chuck and Jana. Just like the other local businesses above, they can ship or bring out curbside.

After talking to the store owners, I know that they have been deep cleaning their stores more than ever before. And like the rest of us, they do all they can to provide the safest customer experience. While we are talking local, below is a list of 20 places I hope you shop at soon. What are your favorite local shops to support?

If you are wondering if your favorite local business has an option for gift cards, online shopping, curbside pick up, shipping or delivery, just call and ask. There is no doubt they will be grateful for considering shopping local.
