A Final Scotfest

Scotfest is returning to Broken Arrow Events Park for its 45th anniversary—and final celebration—with a weekend of Scottish and Celtic culture, entertainment and family activities.

Scotfest takes place from 5-11 p.m. September 18, 9 a.m.-11 p.m. September 19 and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. September 20.

The festival features live music on multiple stages, Highland athletics, Scottish dancing, bagpipes and drums, clan and cultural exhibits, vendors and food. And families don’t need Scottish ancestry to join the fun.

“Scotfest is about celebrating Scottish culture and sharing it with everyone,” says Kris Morrison, executive director of Scotfest

Young festivalgoers can visit a dedicated children’s area with games, crafts and interactive activities throughout the day. Kids can also watch Highland Games athletes in action, see young performers compete in Highland dancing, hear massed pipe bands and snap a photo with Scotfest mascot Big Wullie Wallace.

Morrison says families who have never attended should plan to stay awhile.

“Families often arrive expecting to spend an hour or two and end up staying all day because there’s always something happening,” he says. “Whether you’re 5 or 85, there’s something that will capture your interest.”

This year’s festival will bring back favorites while adding new vendors and performances for its anniversary celebration. For Morrison, the goal is to create a welcoming event for everyone, whether they have Scottish roots or are simply looking for a different kind of family outing.

“You don’t have to be Scottish to feel at home at Scotfest,” he says.
