Tulsa Global Alliance recognized as nation’s best Sister Cities program
For the fourth time in its 50-year history, Tulsa Global Alliance was awarded top honors for its Sister City program.
Competing with hundreds of programs across the globe, Tulsa was presented by Sister Cities International on July 24 at the organization’s Anniversary Homecoming in Washington, D.C. for the Best Overall Program Award.
This award recognizes Tulsa Global Alliance’s excellence in fostering international relationships, cultural exchange, economic development and community engagement. Tulsa Global Alliance was honored among peer organizations from cities with a population of greater than 300,000 residents.
Tulsa Global Alliance is a nonprofit that champions intercultural exchange and citizen diplomacy. As a core part its mission, the organization facilitates nine Sister City partnerships on behalf of the City of Tulsa:
- San Luis Potosí, Mexico (partnership established in 1980)
- Kaohsiung, Taiwan (est. 1980)
- Beihai, China (est. 1987)
- Tiberias, Israel (est. 1989)
- Utsunomiya, Japan (est. 1992)
- Zelenograd, Russia (est. 1992)
- Celle, Germany (est. 2000)
- Amiens, France (est. 2005)
- Mwanza, Tanzania (est. 2024)
“For years, Tulsa’s Sister Cities program has built lasting relationships that have created cultural understanding, economic opportunity, and global connections,” Mayor Monroe Nichols said. “Receiving this prestigious award is a testament to that legacy. I want to thank the Tulsa Global Alliance for its outstanding leadership and partnership as we continue strengthening our sister city relationships and creating new opportunities for Tulsa in the years ahead.”
Sister Cities International is the international membership organization for sister city programs in over 400 U.S. communities, fostering relationships with more than 1,800 cities across 140 countries. Over its 50-year history, Tulsa Global Alliance has been named Best Overall Program four times.
