Welcome to Spaghetti on the Wall!

Adventures in baking, crafting, reading and exploring Tulsa with a two-year-old.

Welcome to “Spaghetti on the Wall,” a blog that celebrates fun, “winging it,” and books. This is a space where I can share things I love and enjoy doing (with my favorite two-year-old), and where you, the reader, can either join me in geeking out or in discovering new things you might enjoy, too.

I love thinking about names and will admittedly swallow the click-bait of any baby- name-related article, including “22 Outlawed Baby Names From Around the World” or “The Most Unusual Celebrity Baby Names.” The name “Spaghetti on the Wall” popped into my mind a few weeks ago and never left. It gives this blog the freedom to “see what sticks,” in other words, to evolve as my own or readers’ interests change, but also it reflects my parenting philosophy, which is to try to minimize stress by trusting that I’ll figure things out as I go along. Obviously, this could potentially lead to more stress when things don’t seem to “figure out” very smoothly, so at some point, the name might more accurately reflect the state of chaos life has become!

(On that note, my husband, two-year-old son, Joss, and I live in a two-bedroom apartment along with a gaggle of bicycles, assorted coffee-roasting and brewing equipment, and bins of stuffed animals. So please don’t imagine that life is clutter-free or completely non-chaotic even now.)

I’d love for this blog to be about more than just me, so if at any point you’d like to recommend a book, activity, game, etc., that you think others would enjoy learning about, feel free to email me at tara.rittler@gmail.com with the name of the thing you’re recommending and a couple sentences about why you like it. I can’t guarantee all recommendations will make it into the blog, but I really would like to hear from you!

Finally, although this is more of an introductory post, I’ll go ahead and leave you with one recommendation. Because I finished my graduate studies yesterday (just in time for everyone else to head back to school!) AND the freezer was empty of sweet, creamy treats, I bought myself a celebratory carton of Blue Bunny’s new Monster Cookie Mash ice cream. It was delicious.
