Timothy Thummel: From Classroom to Coffee Shop

At Town & Country School’s student-run coffee shop, Brews & Bites, Timothy “Timmy” Thummel learned more than how to make drinks and snacks. The sophomore helped design the logo, create menu ideas and build confidence working with customers—experience that later helped him land a job at a Broken Arrow coffee shop, Not Your Average Joe.

Timmy is part of the school’s Success Program, which focuses on real-world job skills and career preparation. When he’s not making frappes or chai lattes, he enjoys playing piano, hanging out with friends, watching movies and creating videos for his YouTube channel. We talked to Timmy about his experience at Brews & Bites.

TK: What do you enjoy most about working at the coffee shop?

Timmy: Making our own free drink at the end and trying out new drinks we make.

TK: What’s your favorite drink or snack to make?

Timmy: At Brews & Bites at school, the chai latte. At Not Your Average Joe, I like the power balls snack.

TK: What was your favorite part of helping create the school coffee shop?

Timmy: My favorite part was decorating the cups.

TK: How did it feel to get your job after working on the school project?

Timmy: I felt good about myself.

TK: What’s something you’ve learned from working with customers?

Timmy: Sometimes it’s hard to get all orders right. My boss helps us.
