My Pet Peeves, Part I

Do you have any pet peeves? After my last rant about the Toyota commercial, I run the risk of sounding curmudgeonly, but one of my pet peeves is how the same words and phrases end up everywhere. My husband enjoys seeing me blow my stack while I’m watching the national news or cable TV. He keeps a running list of my least favorite, over-used words and phrases, and it keeps growing. Here are a few:

  • At the end of the day
  • Sea change (look it up – it’s used incorrectly MOST of the time)
  • Gone missing or went missing
  • He (or she) is a rock star
  • I’m just sayin’

So, at the end of the day, I’m just sayin’, I would love to see some of these phrases go missing; we would all be rock stars if we could be a little more creative in our vocabulary. Hey, it might even cause a sea change in language usage. I’m just sayin’…..
