Banana Ice Cream: Make It Together

Banana Ice Cream And Bananas

One of the best things about summer is the change in schedule. Evenings last a little longer and there’s more space to do the things we don’t have time for during the school year. That includes cooking with our kids.

Cooking together isn’t always efficient (and it’s rarely tidy), but it’s also a fun way to spend time together. Kids get to try something new, make decisions and feel a little more capable—plus it gives you time to talk and laugh.

If you’re looking for a place to start, keep it low-pressure and hands-on. Recipes that involve stirring, mashing, pouring and tasting tend to go the best.

Here are some easy ways to make it fun—plus an easy recipe for banana ice cream you can make with your kids.

Let them build it.

Set out toppings and let kids assemble yogurt parfaits, mini pizzas or waffles with peanut butter and fruit. Giving them ownership goes a long way.

Skip the oven.

No-bake recipes are especially good in the summer. Energy bites, fruit popsicles and frozen desserts are fun and easy to make.

Keep expectations low.

The end result might not look like the picture. Let your kids know that’s OK. The point is being in it together.

This fun summer treat is delicious topped with a drizzle of chocolate sauce.
