Snowstorm in a Jar

Bring a little winter magic indoors with this quick, hands-on “snowstorm in a jar” experiment. It’s perfect for curious kids and busy parents.

Supplies

  • Clear jar or bottle
  • Baby oil
  • White paint
  • Water
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Alka-Seltzer tablets

Steps

  1. Fill the jar ⅔ full with baby oil.
  2. Mix white paint with water until milky; pour into the jar.
  3. Add glitter if using.
  4. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet into pieces and drop in 2–3.
  5. Watch the “snow” swirl! Add more tablets to repeat.

It’s a simple way to spark curiosity, creativity, and conversation all in one jar. Science time just became memory-making time.
