Picking Berries at Endicott Farms

I always love to go berry picking in the summer, although I don’t know that we make it every year. The past couple of years, we’ve gone to Joe’s Farm, which is a nice, easy drive down Sheridan. This year, I recruited a friend to drive with us out to Endicott Farms out in Mounds. They have both blueberries and blackberries, and conveniently, we went on a day that both types of berries were ripe!

Because we’ve had so much rain this summer, the farm was on the soggy side. They’d warned people to wear mud-appropriate shoes on social media, but sadly, our usual tennis shoes and sneakers had to suffice. It may be time to invest in some rain boots!

The farm is out in the country; both the drive and the farm itself are beautiful. It was a slightly foggy morning, and the sun didn’t start coming out until we were about to leave, so the temperatures were perfect.

Endicott Farms is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays from 7 a.m.-12 p.m., and Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. As with most berry farms, you’ll want to keep an eye on their social media pages. In the past couple weeks, they opened up extra blueberry-picking hours. And of course, if it keeps raining, there could always be some weather cancellations. There seemed to be plenty of blueberries left when we were picking, and blackberry season is just getting started. But they’ll also announce on social media when the 2025 season comes to an end.

Lots of pretty flowers growing among the berries, too!

Berries are priced at $30 per gallon, or $20 per half-gallon. If you get more than a gallon, it goes down to $25/gallon. I liked that in addition to the large buckets, they had tiny, colorful buckets for younger pickers. It’s definitely a fun activity to do with kids, although depending on how your child feels about bugs, their enjoyment may vary. (Don’t ask me how I know.)

Regardless, it was a wonderful, relaxing morning. And now we have plenty of fresh berries and are looking forward to making muffins later! Learn more about picking berries at Endicott Farms at endicottfarms.com/pick-your-own
