Find new-to-you books at annual Friends of the Helmerich Library book sale in April

The annual Friends of the Helmerich Library (FOHL) book sale offers five days to shop gently used books and media for a great cause. The book sale kicks off with a FOHL members-only preview day on Thursday, April 16, noon-8 p.m. at Helmerich Library, 5131 E. 91st St., where FOHL members get access to the sale a day early. The sale will be open to the public from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on April 17, 18, 24 and 25, and FOHL membership can be obtained at any event, including the preview day.
At the members-only preview day, individuals can become a VIP FOHL member for $20 and attend from noon to 4 p.m.; or individuals can become a FOHL member for $5 and families for $10 and attend from 5 to 8 p.m.
“Volunteering for Friends of Helmerich Library is an enriching opportunity to share the love of books and reading,” said Debra Barlow, FOHL president. “Through the yearly sale, we are able to support all of the Tulsa City-County Library locations with grants for programs that they would not be able to present. Seeing these projects that serve children, youth and adults makes all of our diligent work worthwhile. I am proud to serve with these volunteers who love the library. Through our funded programs, we continue to see the library’s influence on the community.”
Thousands of secondhand materials, including books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records and audiobooks will be available for purchase. Hardcover books are priced at $2, trade paperbacks at $1, DVDs at $2 and other items for less. Unique and rare items are individually priced, including specialty books, book sets and computer software.
Individuals may join the FOHL through a $5 donation, and families may join through a $10 donation. All proceeds from the sale go toward improvements to Helmerich Library and funding grants for special programming at other Tulsa City-County Library locations. Since its inception, FOHL has raised over $150,000 through the annual book sale, which has helped provide funding for Summer Reading Program prizes and programming to nurture the love of literacy for all ages.
