City Gears Up for 8th Annual 918 Day

Mayor Nichols to Launch “Monroe On The Go” Sept. 18; 918 Day Passport Challenge Scheduled for Sept. 20
918 Day

The City of Tulsa is gearing up for its eighth annual 918 Day on Thursday, Sept. 18.

Since the introduction of 918 Day in 2018, Tulsans and local businesses alike have embraced the day with events, activities, and discounts to celebrate Tulsa.

This year, Mayor Nichols and the City will continue the annual tradition with new events and activities surrounding 918 Day, with the theme “Tulsa in Motion.” Tulsa in Motion celebrates Tulsa’s forward progress, giving insight into the people and places that make Tulsa unique.

Monroe On the Go

On Thursday, Sept. 18, Mayor Nichols will launch “Monroe On The Go” – a trip that will take him to:

  • 9 Area Schools
  • 1 Fun Adventure
  • 8 Local Businesses

Each stop highlights the Mayor’s commitment to Tulsa, supporting our youth and schools, celebrating community and uplifting the local businesses that make Tulsa special.

During the trip, Mayor Nichols will be documenting his journey throughout the day. To keep up with the Mayor on 918 Day, follow him on Facebook and Instagram, @MonroeForTulsa.

Media are invited to tag along with the Mayor on a few of his stops. More information will be provided closer to the date.

918 Day Passport Challenge: A Visit to Tulsa’s Destination Districts

Also new this year is the 918 Day Passport Challenge, which will happen on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The challenge takes the place of the 918 Day Scavenger Hunt and will focus on guiding participants through Tulsa’s destination districts.

As part of the activity, Tulsans will get to visit destination districts (along with two bonus districts) to collect stamps to be entered to win a 918 Day Giveaway. All participants are asked to wear Tulsa gear to the event, which could include past year’s 918 Day shirts, Tulsa flag gear, or any other Tulsa-themed clothing. The winner will be announced the following week.

Participants will be asked to first visit one of the core destination district stops (above) to pick up their Passport Card, get their stamp, and interact with local businesses.

Because Passport Card supplies are limited, participants can download and print a Digital Passport Card online to bring to the first stop of their choosing at: www.cityoftulsa.org/918Day

Destination Districts do not have to be visited in order, but the last stop should be the Pearl District at Tulsa Parks’ Handmade Market at Veterans Park. At this location, participants will receive their last stamp, hand over their passports, and get entered into the giveaway. The Handmade Market is Tulsa Parks’ first market of its kind with more than 120 local vendors – so participants who arrive before 6 p.m. can stick around and enjoy the event.

To double the chance of winning, participants can visit the two bonus stops (listed above) and take a selfie as described. Selfies can be shown to the staff at the Handmade Market to get entered into the giveaway drawing twice.
