Discovery Lab Welcomes New CEO Paul Davis

Discovery Lab started an exciting new chapter in December as Paul Davis stepped in as the children’s museum’s new chief executive officer and executive director. But for Davis, the museum isn’t just a place he will lead – it’s a place that has already shaped years of memories with his family.
Davis has lived in Tulsa for 20 years. He first came to the city after college, following his now-wife, Julie. Today, the couple is raising their daughters, 11-year-old Mia and 8-year-old Olivia, who have been visiting Discovery Lab since they were toddlers – at that time, in Discovery Lab’s previous location near Owen Park.
“I am thrilled and honored to lead Discovery Lab into its next chapter,” Davis said. “Having experienced the museum’s magic as a parent, I know how special it is for Tulsa’s families. I am eager to collaborate with the incredible team to spark curiosity, foster a love of learning and create unforgettable experiences for every child in our community.”
For the past eight years, Davis has worked in education as the executive director of City Year Tulsa, helping expand opportunities for students across the community. Before that, he spent nine years with the Mental Health Association of Oklahoma in leadership roles focused on operations, fundraising and organizational growth.
Discovery Lab’s Board of Directors selected Davis after a national search, noting his strong nonprofit experience and passion for helping kids learn.
“Paul brings extensive leadership experience and a deep understanding of what it means to be uniquely Tulsa,” said Board President Scott Robin. “He’s the ideal person to guide Discovery Lab into its next chapter of growth and impact.”
Davis grew up in Southern California, North Carolina and the Chicago suburbs before attending Drury University in Missouri, where he studied international political studies, design arts and Middle Eastern studies. He later earned his MBA from Oklahoma State University. But no matter where he has lived, one passion has remained: helping kids explore the world around them.
He said Discovery Lab plays an important role in Tulsa by giving children of all ages a place to imagine, experiment and try new things. The museum designs and builds many of its own exhibits in-house, offers hands-on STEAM programs and partners with schools across the region.
Davis said he plans to continue building strong community partnerships and supporting the team that has helped the museum grow into the beloved destination families know today.
“It’s headed in such a positive direction,” he said. “I want to strengthen the work already happening so Discovery Lab continues to be a place for our kids — and future generations — for a long time.”
Of course, Davis has some favorite exhibits of his own. “The tape slide is an all-time classic,” he said. “My daughters have been riding it for nearly a decade, and they still get excited.” He also loves the BMX-themed Riders Ready exhibit, where he and Mia recently tried a wheelie challenge. “Neither of us had very impressive times, but we had a blast,” he said.
As he steps into his new role, Davis said he is honored to help lead an organization that sparks joy, creativity and curiosity in so many young learners.
“Discovery Lab is such an important part of our community,” Davis said. “I’m excited to help shape its future — and to keep creating unforgettable experiences for every child who walks through our doors.”
