A Lake Retreat in Branson: Our Stay at Westgate Branson Lakes

When you think of Branson, Missouri, you might first think of Silver Dollar City, shows, shopping and seemingly endless in-town activities. There is a time and a place for on-the-move vacations, but recently my family wanted to get away to Table Rock Lake and relax.

Table Rock has always been one of my favorite lakes, but this would be my family’s first stay at Westgate Branson Lakes Resort. I wasn’t prepared for just how beautiful the setting would be. I’ve been to quite a few areas of Branson and surrounding communities, but hadn’t been to the Westgate Branson Lakes Resort area, which is a quiet community that feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of tourist attractions. That being said, it’s only a short drive to anything kids would want to visit.

We had a 1-bed, 1-bath suite with an unobstructed view of Table Rock Lake. There was something incredibly peaceful about being able to step outside onto our balcony and watch boats as well as wildlife. We pointed out the variety of birds swooping by. The screened-in balcony quickly became one of the best parts of our stay. There are several marinas nearby where families can enjoy a day on the lake.

My daughter enjoyed swimming, which is next to the mini golf course there. The pool had a waterfall, which was an added bonus for her. There are activities for kids each day next to the pool and golf area and a well-equipped game room in the main building. There was plenty to keep us entertained right where we were staying. This particular trip reminded me that sometimes getting away is simply hanging out and having nowhere in particular to be. After a busy year, we all needed that.

A Different Side of Branson

What I particularly loved about our vacation was getting to experience a different side of Branson. If you’ve stayed at Branson Lakes or at another lake resort around the Hollister area, you know what I’m talking about. It’s quiet and truly a rejuvenating experience. There are many resorts, vacation homes and condos in the area for a reason.

When I tell people the Branson area is a fantastic place to relax, sometimes they don’t believe me. It doesn’t all have to be rollercoasters. It’s all about your intention for the vacation. We went into the city for dinner two times. The popular eateries and attractions are just 10-15 minutes away from Westgate Branson Lakes. It was easy, but buying and cooking food in our suite’s kitchen was what made the most sense for us this time.

Will We Go Back?

It’s not a question of if, but when. The resort was updated and our suite was spotless. Aside from the outside pool, in case of inclement weather, the activity/game room and indoor pool were huge bonuses. I cannot imagine how beautiful the view we loved must be when the leaves change this fall.

There’s a reason the Branson lakeside communities and suburbs are quickly expanding. Will we be going back for the Westgate Branson Lakes experience? Absolutely. Will we go back for the active in-town Branson experience? My daughter will make sure of that! After all, Branson’s holiday season is coming up.

Pro tip 1: If you’re looking for other free and low-key things to do nearby, check our Table Rock State Park and the local fish hatchery, which provides public tours.

Pro tip 2: Considering a trip to Branson’s Table Rock Lake? There’s no better way to explore it than by boat. As the leaves change and it cools, it’s only going to get more beautiful over there.
