This week, I had the honor of interviewing Brianna Cameron, one of two young actresses who plays Young Anna Mae in the North American Broadway tour of “Tina – The Tina Turner Musical.” (Anna Mae is Tina Turner’s birth name.) Brianna is a 4th-grade honors student, and “Tina” marks her Broadway debut. Other credits include the Lego Broadway Musical, Equalizer, Ziwe, and Jam Van.* She also won 1st place in the 2022 Amateur night at the Apollo Theatre.

In the interview, we talked about what it’s like to be a young actress on tour. For example, how to keep up with schoolwork and maintain good grades while on a rigorous tour schedule. (She has some great advice that applies to anyone, on tour or not!) She also shared what she loves about performing and her advice to other young people interested in theater.

If you’re on the fence about buying tickets for “Tina,” just watch the interview with Brianna Cameron below. I’m sure her enthusiasm for the production and her clear passion for performing – motivated by a desire to spread joy to others – will convince you to see the show! You’ll be inspired by Tina Turner’s story and get to hear her greatest hits. Brianna said that people often sing along, and encourages you to get up and dance when the time comes!

Seeing “Tina” with Kids?

Brianna mentions how meaningful it is to see and meet children from the audience after the show. She loves the chance to inspire them, just as she’s been inspired by others. Please note that the show is recommended for ages 14+ due to some of the subject matter and elements like strobe lights and gun shots. (See more here.) But of course, every kid is different, so use your best judgment.

If you are seeing it with a younger kid, check out these Tips for Taking Kids to the Theater.

“Tina – The Tina Turner Musical” is coming to the Tulsa PAC May 14-19 – learn more and get tickets at celebrityattractions.com/shows/10086/Tina-The-Tina-Turner-Musical/Tulsa/2024

*If you haven’t heard of Jam Van, it’s an original series for the YouTube Originals for Kids and Family channel. Two animals go on road trips and meet various artists like Brandi Carlile, Lin-Manuel Miranda, etc. It looks cute and educational!
