Weekend Recap – Circle of Care Fundraiser and Tulsa State Fair

This past weekend, Joss and I stayed busy by attending two events: Circle of Care’s “Everyone Has a Story” fundraiser and Tulsa State Fair! TulsaKids did a media partnership with Circle of Care, so I was lucky enough to get to represent us at the event. So I’ll tell you a little bit more about all that below!
Circle of Care
I wasn’t familiar with Circle of Care prior to our partnership, so it was great to learn more about this organization. I knew they were a foster care agency, but they do a lot more than that, too. Not only do they help train and recruit foster families, they also have services to help kids aging out of foster care. They also have a program, Pearl’s Hope, which aims to “build relationships and inspire women to make changes that will improve their life outcomes.” In other words, they work with women in crisis whose children may have been taken away, to help with reunification, housing, employment and more.
Finally, they offer counseling services as well as a Parent to Parent program. This last program connects parents “trying to regain custody of their children” with mentors who have been in the same situation. I love how Circle of Care approaches its mission through a variety of important angles.
Their fundraiser was similarly thought through. Located in Discovery Lab’s event space, “Everyone Has a Story – Discover Yours” was designed to be fun for the entire family. Hot Toast Music Co. performed both an outdoor pre-show before brunch, and entertained the kids on the balcony while the adults listened to a brief presentation.
There were also crafts for the kids, tattoo and bubble stations, storytime, etc. So we had a fantastic time!

Tulsa State Fair
Sunday, we took a family day to the Tulsa State Fair. Joss was somewhat reluctant to go because he’s not been a big fan of the rides the past couple of years. And apparently, last year I overly encouraged him to do a roller coaster with me, which he was not happy about. So I had to promise him I wouldn’t make him do ANY rides this year – and we didn’t.
Free Shuttle
He did enjoy the free shuttle to the fair, as did I. It’s running weekends from the TPS Education Service Center near 31st and Harvard and drops you off at the Golden Driller. We didn’t have to wait in line at all, there was always a shuttle waiting. I was very happy with our decision as we sped around traffic stalled on 21st Street. Stunt Dog Show
After grabbing a Magnito from Deb’s Pineapple Whip, new for 2023, we did our usual walk-around. Looked at the rides, strolled through the Made in Oklahoma building, stopped by to see some cows, etc. As we headed to the Petting Zoo, I realized we were about 30 minutes before the Perondi’s All-Star Stunt Dog Show, and people were already starting to fill the bleachers. So we sped through the Petting Zoo and found a spot for the dog show, which we’d never seen.
It was a lot of fun! The dogs caught frisbees like you’ve never seen before, leapt into a pool of water to see who could jump the furthest, did an obstacle course and more. They even took some volunteers from the audience. And all the dogs are rescues and seemed happy to be there, which was nice.
Catch the show daily during the fair (through Oct. 8) at 2:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Learn about other daily attractions at tulsastatefair.com/p/attractions/daily
In Conclusion…
So that was a pretty great weekend! We also managed to swing by Dragonslayer Games on Saturday afternoon, where they happened to be having a Pokémon Go tournament. We showed up just in time to make two out of the four players, haha. Joss held his own, while I got soundly beaten. Always a good time though 🙂
