“The Restivus”
It’s been a minute since I have included a charity in my blog, so today I’m asking you to pick one (or all!) and donate if you can.
Remember, Santa’s always watching!
For Thanksgiving this year I was alone, which is how we begin my blog today….
All By Myself
“All by myself
Don’t wanna be All by myself Anymore”In 1975, Eric Carmen wrote those lyrics in what would become one of the saddest songs ever. I have a bit of a beef with that song because, although I am very much a “Leo” and love to be a part of a group and surrounded by people, not always.
Although it can be tremendously sad to be alone, it can be also be very therapeutic and inner reflecting. Also, I can scream all the curse words at the TV I want without my curse jar tab skyrocketing. I am a Dallas Cowboy fan, if you remember.
As was the case with me on Thanksgiving.
Every other year my daughter has Thanksgiving visitation with her mom, like this year. And my 13-year-old son went off to his mom’s for the day so that left just me, my dog Domino, and the Thanksgiving Day tradition. No, not the turkey, the Cowboys!
Thankfully the Cowboys easily beat the Washington Commanders, so my swear jar was kept to a minimum.
I had some loving friends offer a seat at their Thanksgiving Day table, but I respectfully declined. My radio family had a potluck party just a few days earlier where we had tons of leftover turkey and ham, so Domino and I had our own little feast.
I wanted to wanted to write about this in my blog to let others know, it’s OK to be alone.
Even on a day that is known to be filled with family, friends, laughter, and weird jello/marshmallow concoctions. And we can all do without the uncles and friends that start talking too much about politics and ruin it all.
So, if you were alone on Thanksgiving or will be for Christmas, try not to let it get you down. Relish in the peace and quiet. Me and Domino did:
It’s the Season
Please donate to one or all of these charities!
My radio family has been hard at work with area nonprofit collabs like:
K95.5 “Holidays for the Troops” with Blue Star Mothers. They need you help sending care packages to our troops who cannot be home for the holidays.
My Tulsa Rocks podcast donated a ton of Ramen Noodles! Here is Caitlin from K95.5 and my daughter, Angel:
Mix 96.5 has done many fundraisers and supply drives but never to benefit Tulsa Youth Services, until now. They are calling it “Gifts of Hope.”
TYS helps provide items and services to homeless youth.
My nonprofit podcast Tulsa Rocks donated a sleeping bag and some hats and gloves. You can donate, too! Here is the link: mix965tulsa.com/
My radio station 103.3 The Eagle is currently asking for toys to be donated to help families transition out of homelessness along with Family Promise of Tulsa County: 1033theeagle.com/
