Second Saturday Art at Arts@302
Our Broken Arrow adventures typically take place on Sunday afternoons. This time is convenient for our schedule, but inconvenient because some Rose District businesses are closed at that time. However, on Saturday, April 12, we made a visit for the express purpose of visiting some of these businesses, starting with Arts@302.
Arts@302
Arts@302 is an art gallery that also offers art classes, camps, etc. They host Second Saturday Art events on the second Saturday of each month, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Not only can you engage in a different creative activity each month, they provide snacks, too! Find upcoming events at arts302.com/events
This month’s activity was stamp-painting with food, which sounded like a blast. It was inspired by their April exhibition, “Art of the Meal,” a food-themed exhibition featuring work from a variety of mediums and local artists. An artist was on hand to provide instructions and help as needed.
We enjoyed the open-ended activity, and the room was large and full of natural light. Joss was grateful for the provided donuts.
After completing our paintings, we explored the gift shop, featuring works by local artists, and the exhibition, which will be on view through April 26.
I love that the exhibition was a mix of fine art, ceramics, textiles, etc. I love food anyway, so it was a very engaging exhibit! One fun aspect was that they’d asked community members to send them photos of meals/dishes they’d created.
We’ll definitely try to make it back for a Second Saturday Art day again soon.

Book and Bloom
Another Rose District business that’s closed on Sundays is Book and Bloom. As the name implies, it is a combination bookstore and flower shop. I knew from peeking in the windows and the outdoor mural that it would be completely charming inside, and I was right! Plus, they had a great selection of books in a relatively small space. I found three for Joss and could have purchased more, if I hadn’t already bought him a lot of books for summer reading.
I didn’t look into their floral offerings, but you can learn more at bookandbloomba.com/orderflowers
And they also host creative workshops and other events, which you can find at bookandbloomba.com/upcoming-events
Rainbow Bowls
Rainbow Bowls actually is open on Sundays, but we just hadn’t been in before. However, we have ordered from their food truck before at a couple different events and enjoyed it. The interior was so cute – your bowls come out the window of a VW van. And they sell a bunch of macrame, their own nut butters and other fun items.
Their menu consists of smoothie bowls and smoothies. The bowls consist of a frozen fruit-blended base, and toppings like fresh fruit, granola, peanut butter, chocolate…there’s a lot to choose from. They come in 12 and 16 oz. sizes – even the 12 oz. bowls are pretty filling.
I couldn’t resist trying their Dubai chocolate-inspired bowl, and it was very tasty!
So all in all, it was another lovely day in the Rose District! Sadly, we missed the farmers market by about five minutes, but we were pretty tired (at least I was) by the time we got home anyway.
