Scheels and Dick’s
Touring Scheels Tulsa and the Renovated Dick's House of Sport
I last checked in with you just after Fall Break, so I wanted to get caught up because we have been through a lot since then.
As my son said while we were planning our Thanksgiving Break: “Wow, this year is flying by!”
Tulsa is proving we are an active and supports-minded community, having opened three major sporting goods stores within a two-month span. I’ve got pictures from two of them. REI opens in a couple of days.
I also interviewed the founder of “The Listening Path,” which is a program designed to teach kids how to listen in this very digital world.
Scheels and Wheels
My daughter, Angel, and I were excited to check out the grand opening of our newest sporting goods store, Scheels. We have been watching the construction of the store inside (and on top of!) the Woodland Hills Mall for many months, so it was great to finally walk through the doors. I almost felt like Charlie and his grandpa when they first walked into the Wonka chocolate factory.
Angel and I both walked in with wonderment in our eyes. The first thing we saw was the 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium. It’s so enormous you can walk under it! The humongous all-glass tank is filled with 600 beautiful exotic fish, and a human! Yes, there was a human in scuba gear gently floating through the aquarium waving at us as we walked underneath them!
We bought some candy in Fuzziwig’s Candy Factory:
We loved the giant Lego fisherman:
And of course the 56-foot Ferris wheel! The wait to ride it was an hour, so we had to put that on our To-Do List for another time, but it is pretty cool!!
Dick’s House of Sport
Another super cool grand “re-opening” is Dick’s House of Sport at 71st and Mingo. Obviously, they saw the writing on the (rock) wall and figured they should probably do something to stand out more since they now have serious competition just two blocks away, so they underwent a ginormous renovation! I couldn’t believe how huge it was inside!
