Kids and Concerts!
In this blog, we will talk about my experiences taking my kids to concerts, and I’ll give you a teaser about my upcoming fundraiser for Red Dirt Relief Fund.
My 14 Year Old And Concerts
Last week, I had planned on seeing Sebastian Bach in concert. Who is he? He sang for one of the biggest ’80s hair bands, Skid Row (“Youth Gone Wild,” “I Remember You,” “18 and Life,” etc). He played at Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma City on June 18. I helped promote the concert on my Tulsa Rocks podcast and gave away some tickets as prizes, so I felt compelled to go.
Since I enjoy a few beers at a good hair metal show, I decided to get a hotel room in OKC. There is a Holiday Inn around the corner from Diamond Ballroom, and I recommend it, if you ever go.
My 14-year-old son, Atticus, was supposed to spend the night at a friend’s, but that fell through at the last minute so he was going with me, whether he wanted to or not. He seemed sorta interested. Then I told him I got a hotel room in OKC with a pool, and he got much more excited. He’s like me, he loves to travel.
We ended up having a blast, and the promoter of the concert, DCF Concerts (dcfconcerts.com) was happy with my promotion efforts, so they will be giving my podcast more tickets to future concerts!
I was worried it might be too loud for Atticus, but he said he was fine, and he actually ended up enjoying the concert!
That’s my boy!!!!
Here is Sebastian Bach at Diamond Ballroom. Thirty-eight years later, and he still has that signature long rock-star hair! I loved his staple hair metal rock anthems and his new ones!!!
My 10 Year Old and Concerts
Cain’s Ballroom is certainly one of the biggest reasons why “Tulsa Rocks.” They are celebrating 100 years as a Tulsa landmark, so all year they are having special concerts to celebrate, and this past weekend was one of them, or rather, two of them.
Corey Kent is a country singer from Bixby, Oklahoma, whose single “Wild As Her” has been streamed over 300,000,000 times in its first year. He has been on tour, but this past Friday and Saturday he had two back-to-back concerts at Cain’s. Night one had been sold out for months. Night two sold out earlier in the week.
Since I am a country radio DJ on K95.5 and also an entertainment reporter for Fox 23 TV, I just had to take a camera crew down to Cain’s Friday night and capture some of the excitement.
And it was exciting! The line to get in stretched so far down Main Street, I couldn’t see the end! The first girl in line got there early in the afternoon and was so happy to finally see Corey Kent and, by God, she was going to be right in front of him!
Corey Kent could’ve easily played a much bigger venue, but he has played Cain’s before and wanted his big home coming to be something special because it was also his 30th birthday!
I tried finding a baby sitter for my 10-year-old daughter but couldn’t, so she had to come with me. She was fine, and in fact, was having fun taking pictures of me doing my on camera work with Fox 23!
Again, I was a bit worried it might be too loud for my child, but she’s got too much of her Dad in her, as you can see below:
Here is Andrew, our Fox 23 “photog”:
It was a great night, and the opening band was great, too! Carson Jeffrey:
I had never met this gentleman before, but he saw me and wanted to thank me because he won his concert tickets to this sold-out show from my radio station, K95.5! Another satisfied listener!
Tulsa Rocks Concert #4
Please join me Saturday, July 13, at Los Cabos in Broken Arrow. My Tulsa Rocks concert is celebrating Tulsa Music Month by having a fundraiser for Red Dirt Relief Fund.
They help Oklahoma musicians who need a helping hand. It was started during the pandemic when musicians couldn’t play live and needed help to pay bills.
We will have several Red Dirt musicians performing and will be auctioning off autographed guitars and other prizes.
Plus, you can purchase our newest Tulsa Rocks, limited edition, T-shirt design featuring the Red Dirt Driller!!
