Kid-Friendly Exhibits to See Over Spring Break

Do you have your spring break plans nailed down yet? Here are a few cool-yet-educational things to do. I’ve already written about FLORIGAMI at Tulsa Botanic Garden, but that is certainly on this list as well! So read all about that at tulsakids.com/florigami-in-the-garden-is-now-on-view
Zoorassic World: Frozen in Time at Tulsa Zoo
Dinosaurs are back at Tulsa Zoo! And this time, they’re bringing their prehistoric friends from the Ice Age! See more than 25 life-size dinosaurs and mammals, including stegosaurus, which wasn’t at the previous Zoorassic World installation, woolly mammoths, a saber-toothed tiger, Oklahoma’s state dinosaur (do you know which it is?) and more. There are lots of baby dinosaurs, etc., as well, so even if your kids are a bit worried by the towering animals, they may enjoy the smaller ones!
There is also a fossil dig, T-Rex photo opportunity, shop and other fun elements.
Zoorassic World will be on view March 15-Sept. 1. Tickets are $6 per person ($5 for members); kids 2 and under get in free.
If your kid will be having a birthday during that time, consider renting out the birthday party space in the middle of the installation! When else can you have your party surrounded by dinosaurs? tulsazoo.org/visit/private-events/#birthday
And if your kids love dinosaurs and you’re still looking for a summer camp, Tulsa Zoo will host several dinosaur-themed camps this summer. tulsazoo.org/camps

SAMURAI at Philbrook Museum
Philbrook’s latest exhibition, SAMURAI: Armor from the Collection of Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller will be on view March 12-Aug. 3. I think kids will love this one! The collection features full suits of armor, horse armor, lots of fascinating, detailed helmets, weapons and more. The most impressive part is when you round the corner and realize there’s a whole platform with life-sized horses and riders!
Interactive elements include the opportunity to wear a weighted vest, testing whether you’re as strong as a samurai. And there’s a section exploring how samurai culture continues to influence pop culture through movies, shows, etc.
Some SAMURAI-inspired, kid-friendly events coming up include
- Family Nature Walk: Forest Bathing on March 21, 10-10:30 a.m.
- Storytime at Philbrook: SAMURAI on April 10, 10-10:30 a.m.
- Children’s Day on May 3, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
And there are some SAMURAI-themed summer camps as well.

Other Exhibits to See
Again, don’t miss FLORIGAMI at Tulsa Botanic Garden.
And Discovery Lab also opened up an exciting new BMX exhibit, Riders Ready, last week. You can read all about that in this article from our March issue: tulsakids.com/riders-ready-discovery-lab-visitors-can-explore-the-science-of-bmx
Hopefully that gives you some helpful ideas for spring break! Let us know what you’re looking forward to doing in the comments!
