Discovery Lab Unveils Original Energy Exhibit

Tulsa Children’s Museum Discovery Lab will be unveiling their newest original exhibition, Energy: Sparking Solutions, to the public on Saturday, January 28. With the support of presenting sponsor, Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), the new exhibit will present visitors with a broad look at energy needs and resources.

“There are very few things we do every day that do not use energy. We are excited to watch as this exhibit opens the eyes of children and adults to the world of energy around us. We hope to challenge visitors to think critically about how to channel resources to meet energy needs,” said Ray Vandiver, Executive Director.

The exhibit’s hands on, science-based activities will engage visitors in problem solving and provide a better understanding of the future of energy. Visitors will race cars using solar power, construct molecules, drill for oil in the Petroleum Pit, and create energy at the Wall of Wind, among other activities.

"PSO is committed to providing the best energy solutions to our customers, both now and into the future. We hope this exhibit will inspire young people to learn more about energy and help shape how it's produced and used in the future," said Stuart Solomon, PSO President and COO.

The museum called on local high school students in Tulsa Technology Center’s Project Lead the Way engineering classes to help with prototyping for the exhibit, which will fill the Main Hall at Discovery Lab. Students helped conceptualize designs for elements of the exhibit and problem solved potential engineering design issues. The museum regularly partners with the Tulsa Technology Center program to offer students real-life engineering challenges.

Other sponsors include T.D. Williamson and Arts Alliance of Tulsa.

“It is important to understand the role energy infrastructure plays every day in powering our homes, cars, and workplace. We hope visitors see this and value this vital industry in our state,” said Bob McGrew, President and CEO, T.D. Williamson, Inc.

Museum Members are invited to preview the exhibit at the VIP and Members Only Night on Friday, January 27th, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The exhibit will be officially open to the publicSaturday, January 28. For information on admission pricing and to plan your visit to the museum, visit
