Getting to know Krissy:

What started your love of baking?

I’ve always loved baking yummy, sweet treats. My entire family went gluten-free eight years ago because of food allergies.  I couldn’t find any store-bought baked goods that tasted homemade, so I searched for the perfect gluten-free ingredients and recipes for cupcakes, cookies and brownies.  I love baking and decorating cupcakes and have baked for my family and friends for years. They always told me I should be in business, so here I am!

What inspired you to start a baking business?

My family and friends were my inspiration. I’ve baked gluten-free treats for my family and friends’ birthdays, anniversaries and baby showers for years.  They encouraged me to offer my cupcakes to folks who suffer from celiac and other food allergies. I’m thrilled to be able to share my love of baking with others.

How do you involve your kids in the kitchen?

I have two daughters who are both passionate bakers. Their favorite part is frosting their own cupcakes with individual designs and lots of sprinkles. Of course, they only watch when I’m baking for customers.

Krissy’s Kupcakes:

What is your favorite thing to bake?

Cupcakes! I love the creative flavors, decorations and themes available for each cake. I also love working with my customers to find the perfect cupcake combination for their special celebration themes.

Do you have a signature item that you are known for?

“Honey’s Cupcake” is one of my seven signature cupcakes and my personal favorite. My grandmother’s nickname was Honey. I grew up eating her yummy chocolate cake that had a secret, delicious ingredient. She passed the recipe down to me, and I made it gluten free. It’s my most popular cupcake.

What type of dietary restrictions are you able to accommodate?

All my cupcakes are gluten free and peanut free. I can also convert any order to dairy free, egg free, soy free and/or food dye free. My youngest daughter has a severe peanut allergy. I understand food allergies and how serious they can be. The walnuts and pecans I use for my carrot cake and Italian cream cupcakes are nuts from a dedicated gluten-free and peanut-free facility.

What items do you currently offer?

I exclusively bake gluten-free cupcakes. I also bake miniature cupcakes. They are fun, bite-sized cupcakes with yummy flavor combinations.

What occasions do you provide cupcakes for?

All occasions! I’ve baked cupcakes for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, bridal showers, bachelorette parties, renewal of wedding vows and sometimes just because. My largest order was 160 custom cupcakes for a wedding celebrated at the Will Rogers Museum in Claremore.

Where is your bakery located?

I bake in my home kitchen under Oklahoma’s Home Bakery Act. All of my baking supplies are stored separately. My kitchen was deemed gluten free in 2007 when I became gluten free so there is no cross contamination.

What is your minimum order amount and how much time should customers provide to you when placing an order?

Minimum order is one-half-dozen cupcakes. I prefer a 72-hour notice (3 days ahead of time) for orders of three dozen or more.  Six weeks’ notice is required for larger events like a wedding.

Delivery and/or pick-up?

I offer free local delivery within a 10-mile radius of the south Tulsa area. Delivery over 10 miles is available with a delivery fee.

Wrap-Up:

I’m excited to serve the Tulsa and surrounding community, especially those with food allergies.  I encourage anyone that has any questions about the ingredients I use to ask. I also take special order requests. Even if it’s not on my menu, please ask me about what you would like because I’m always open for trying new flavors.
