On My Radar

You know what’s fun about supporting local businesses and blogging about fun things to do with your kids in Tulsa? People who know what you do give you ideas all the time! I wanted to let you know about a lot of fun places I’ve been catching buzz on, and a few upcoming events to put on your calendar!

Muskogee War Memorial Park and Museum – A friend from high school sent me a message on facebook and told me about this, knowing I’m a fan of local businesses, and it sounds really interesting. Her grandfather runs the place, which is also fun. They’ve got submarines, bombers and all kinds of other WWII memorabilia, as well as what looks to be a moving memorial. We love visiting Muskogee; they’ve got River Country water park that we frequent in the Summer, and also the Amish Country Store. Knowing there’s a great lunch spot out there makes me think that the War Memorial and Amish Country Store would make an excellent day trip. Anyone up for a field trip?

Grogg’s Green Barn – Oh green goodness am I excited about this one. I’ve driven by this place several times, and never realized it was anything more than a gardening store. One of the ladies at a knitting group I attend told me about it when I mentioned I blogged for Tulsa Kids. They have tons of classes, for adults and kids, and sell all kinds of gardening gear for the little ones. They also specialize in organic and native Oklahoma plants. I mean look at this list of classes! There isn’t a single one I want to miss!

Darryl Starbird Car Show – This weekend! It's the Darryl Starbird show at the QuickTrip (Expo) building and it's by far the biggest car show of the year here in Tulsa! Some friends of mine own Harley’s Hotrods and Customs, and they’ll have two cars in the show. I’m really excited about supporting their business, and I know my little bees will have so much fun checking out all the cars! Times for the show are:

  • Friday 2/17:  12:00 noon-11:00pm
  • Saturday 2/18:  10:00am -11:00pm
  • Sunday 2/19:  10:00am-6:00pm

The Dog House – A fellow mom from my little’s dance class told me about The Dog House a couple of weeks ago, and sure enough there was a Groupon available a couple of days later! My husband and I are suckers for hot dogs and coneys, and what kid isn’t? Take a look at their exciting menu of gourmet dogs. I think this might be a great lunch to accompany our car show outing this weekend!

Joe Momma’s Story Time – I’m already a huge fan of Joe Momma’s pizza, and I love that the restaurant is a hip hangout that’s also kid friendly. Every Saturday at 11:30am, they have a book reading, balloons, pizza dough toss, prize giveaways, and special guests. I’ve been meaning to get to it for a while now; anyone want to make a date?

Tulsa Air and Space Museum – Okay, confession: I’ve lived in Tulsa my whole life and only in the last year realized we had an Air and Space Museum! Shamefull. That said, I am really excited to check this out with my kids. This coming Monday, on President’s Day, they have some mini-camps for grade schoolers. Register here if you’re interested!

Sooner Scrapbooks and Consulting – I recently met the owner of Sooner Scrapbooks at a small get together of local business owners. She has a great shop, and often has crafting classes for kids. If your kids are too young for the Air and Space Museum’s mini-camps (like my littles), take them to Sooner Scrapbooks next Monday for a fun bookmark craft. It’s come and go between 10:30-3:30, and only costs $5, which covers materials AND a snack! They’re located at 51st and Harvard (behind the liquor store). Maybe I’ll see ya there!

See you around town!
