My Mayfest Date

May 23, 2012 - 06:00 AM

I've always said Fall is my favorite time of year, but I'm really growing to love Spring. Flowers coming up in the garden, sun dresses, meals on the patio, berry picking, farmers markets and festivals all make way for bustling Summer activity. It really gets my gears going!

Mayfest is a 40 year old tradition in Tulsa of bring local art downtown, and the Blue Dome Arts Festival is a staple as well. I love being outside and perusing the many booths to see amazing art and meet the artists. This year, we had camping plans for the weekend and I knew we weren't going to be able to get out there with all the kids, so I had to figure something else out. There's no way I'll miss a Mayfest! So, since my pre-schooler only has half days of school, he got to be the lucky one to take me on a date while we had a window of opportunity before the weekend!

I will miss the days he doesn't insist on holding my hand to walk down the street. Look at that little ragamuffin. His poor iron on monster has lost an eye. We made those t-shirts for the Tulsa + event a while back; it's his favorite.

We started in the Blue Dome District to see what treasures we could find.

Alec was impressed with the ladies spinning their own yarn from wool. He even got to see pictures of the sheep!

They had some really gorgeous products. I'm very sad to say I've lost their card and can't tell you who they are. My usual practice is to make a loop of the booths and collect cards before going back around to buy things. Otherwise I'd spend all my money before I get to the end of the tents!

Where else will you find live music accompanied by yoga in the streets?! Love it!

AND belly dancing! These ladies were phenomenal!

Normally, I'd belly up to the food trucks for corn dogs and funnel cakes, but my date requested Joe Momma's Pizza. It's a family favorite.

Sigh. He's getting so big.

After we ate, we left the 2nd and Elgin area of the Blue Dome Festival and headed to Main Street to Mayfest.

My date was a little more interested in exploring the Downtown Tulsa landscape than he was in seeing the art, so we played for a bit before heading home.

Hopefully we can make it out to the Cherry Street Farmer's Market this weekend. We have yet to get out there this year! What are your favorite Spring festivals in town?

See you around town!
