Date Night Dancing

Aug 23, 2012 - 07:23 AM

Looking for some new date night ideas? If you're like us, when you finally do get a night off from the kiddos, it's far too easy to opt for the good ole' dinner and a movie. We may not be post college kids any more, but we're not signing up for the early bird specials yet!

Something we've been wanting to do for a long time is try out ballroom dancing to mix things up a little. It was perfect timing when my husband, Marc, met a ballroom dance instructor at a business meeting recently. Michelle, our new dance teacher friend, teaches at Strictly Ballroom and invited us to their guest party. Every few weeks, instructors and students invite people to a dance party with amazing free food, open bar, and dancing with a DJ. The awesome thing is that as a guest, you're offered a special dance lesson package with three 30 minute lessons, and two practice parties for only $30! We had so much fun at the dance party, so it was a no-brainer to buy the introductory package!

After our three lessons we attended our first practice party. The guest party and practice parties are a blast because all of the instructors grab you and take you around the floor so the whole evening is filled with dancing and learning from different dancers. As a student it's great to dance with both instructors and different students because you learn new things from each dance partner!

And let me tell you - every party is a PARTY. There are streamers and balloons and disco lights and everything.

And seriously, my husband is cute!

The instructors are a crazy bunch of dance happy fools too. You can tell they absolutely love what they do. Whatever you do, don't think for one minute you're going to be able to keep your seat warm either. They're grabbing you every song to take you around the floor! I definitely look a little...warm...in this pic because I hadn't sat out one dance! Below is our fantastic instructor, Diana. She is so great and has been really cool about helping us achieve our goals in dancing, rather than assuming we're trying to be on Dancing with the Stars!

If you don't have your own dance partner, don't worry. There are plenty of instructors and students to dance with. No one's going to make you sit out on the fun. Single mommas and single daddies are welcome, and what a great place to make new friends if you catch my drift!

One of our favorite dances is the Tango. Don't be fooled though; Diana posed us for this pic. When we're actually doing it, we're looking at our feet a lot more (which we're not supposed to do)!

Strictly Ballroom is located in the shopping center just north of 71st and Lewis. Let me know if you're interested in attending a guest party with my husband and me; we'd love for you to join us and get in on that special package! If you call and sign up for lessons on your own, make sure you tell them I sent you. I'm not gonna lie - we get free lessons when we bring guests and they sign up for it, so come on and dance with us!

See you around town!
