Life is what you make of it; make honey.

Our Fair Adventure

I don't usually do two posts back-to-back about the same subject, but I also don't usually write about events before they happen. It's way more fun to write about them after the fact so I can share pictures with you and share how fun it was! So, I'm bending my own little rule and I'm writing a second blog post about the Tulsa State Fair. Last year, the littles and I went on a weeknight and were a little limited on what we could do because we just didn't have all that much time. This year, though, we went much earlier in the day on a weekend and did oh so much more! Since we were there to film for Tulsa Feed, I had the privilege of getting in with a Press Pass and coming in through the back door so to speak. The first thing we saw were some beautiful...

Planning Ahead to Save Money at the Fair

Good Monday morning everyone! Just a quick post here to remind you that NOW is the time to plan your trip to the Tulsa State Fair, which kicks off this Thursday! Last year I wrote a post after the fact about money saving tips, but this year I wanted to give you a heads up so you don't walk away from the festivities with empty pockets to accompany your funnel cake induced hangover! Plan Ahead First, go to the Plan Your Day link to choose the day you want to attend and you can check off all the events you want to attend that occur on that day! This will help you know what shows you need to purchase tickets in advance for, and which ones are free with the price of admission.    Finding Food Next, take a look at the Food Finder. I know as well as...

Will Detour for Wine

You have to keep your eyes and ears open, kids. Otherwise you may miss some sweet opportunities for adventure. A few weeks ago, I was driving home from Ketchum, OK after a postpartum visit with a doula client of mine. When I got into my car after leaving her house, there were two messages on my phone cancelling my other afternoon appointments. As I drove along, wondering how I'd fill the rest of my day, this bright yellow sign caught my eye in the town of Adair: I took one look at the time and decided I had plenty of it. I do love detours, especially if they include wine! I drove up to find a lovely little house, and a lovely vineyard.    I walked in to a cute little gift shop and noticed there was also a bar with loads of wine. ...

Getting Fresh at Cherry Street Farmers' Market

Am I the only one who feels more like eating healthy food when it's presented to me in an enticing way? Something about the lighting in certain grocery stores and apples all lined up in pretty rows instead of jumbled in a case actually make me want to eat the apples instead of bee line to the snack section. You know what also makes me want to eat healthier foods? Farmers' markets! The outdoors, the fresh air, the sunshine and the friendly farmers all make for an atmosphere that causes me to pull out my pocketbook and fill up my bag with fresh veggies. Recently, the family and I made it out to Cherry Street for the Cherry Street Farmers' Market to round up some fresh grub. We also had the film crew out to shoot for the Honeybee Mama show on Tulsa Feed, so be on the...

Tulsans Gather to Raise Awareness and Improve Birth

Yesterday, I joined dozens of men and women who gathered at Green Acres Market in Jenks for the Improving Birth Rally for Change to raise awareness for the maternity care crisis in the U.S. Here I am with my friend, Brooke White, who is a sister doula and Bradley Method Childbirth Educator in the Tulsa metro. It was so empowering to see all the people that came out to support the cause, and it wasn't just childbirth professionals like me! I was particularly inspired by Nikki Rogers and her husband and family who gathered and held signs for the entire two hours of the rally. Improving Birth strives to bring evidence based care and humanity to childbirth. Why is this need so important? Despite the $98 Billion dollars our country spends on maternity care (the most...
