Start the Weekend Early

Feb 9, 2012 - 10:05 AM

Start the weekend activities today by joining a "playologist" with Tulsa Children's Museum who will be exploring the Dream exhibit at the Tulsa Historical Society from 2 to 4 p.m. with kids and adults. The exhibit is interesting because it brings the ideas of all generations together to imagine a better Tulsa. Kids will get to make their own dream star and learn about constellations. Brena, the playologist, will also have two storytimes -- one at 2 p.m. and one at 3 p.m. If you can't make it today, she'll be doing the same thing on Sat., Feb. 25, 10 a.m. - noon. The Tulsa Historical Society is at 2445 S. Peoria. Kids are free and adults are $5.

After school today from 4 to 5 at the Hardesty Regional Library, kids ages 5 and up are invited to a Very Fancy Nancy Valentine's Day. Kids can wear their fanciest outfits and make fancy crafts and valentines.

I always made homemade valentines with my kids. Even all these year later, we probably still have glitter in our kitchen. If you need some help in this department, you can take your kids, 12 and younger, to the Judy Kishner Library on N. Cincinnati today between 3 and 7 p.m. to make their own valentines. The library will even provide the supplies!

If you're looking for a fun thing to do with your toddler, age 1-2, Gilcrease Museum has Musuem Babies II from 10 - 11 a.m. on Friday. It's free, but call the museum to pre-register.

By now, most families know that the second Saturday of the month is FREE Second Saturday at Philbrook Museum of Art. It's a fun day of family-friendly activities and projects.

On Saturday, you can take your kids over to Promenade Mall at 41st & Yale for their Kids Club. It's every second Saturday of the month from 1 to 2:30. They'll have games, singing, dancing and some giveaways!

Older kids who enjoy making art, can be part of Living Arts ARTCORE project. On Sunday, young people are invited to go to a brainstorming session for an ARTCORE project from 2-4 p.m. at Living Arts, 307 E. Brady (across from ONEOK Stadium). The ARTCORE classes begin Feb. 14 and go through April. Students get to work with professional artists and the program is free!

Gilcrease has more fun for families on Sunday. Funday Sundays have open art stations from noon to 4 p.m. for children 4-15 with an adult. They'll also be showing the kid-friendly animated films "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" and "Max's Words" at 1 p.m.

Those are just a few of the things going on in Tulsa starting TODAY! If you need more ideas, click over to our calendar, or watch Time for TulsaKids on Good Day Tulsa, Channel 8, every Thurs. between 9 and 10 a.m.

About This Blog

Betty Casey started editing TulsaKids when her youngest child was 3 years old. That daughter is now a freshman in college. Her son is 24 and her middle daughter is 21. TulsaKids and her children literally grew up together (and she lived to tell about it)! Betty's blog ranges from commenting on current parenting issues and upcoming articles to personal reflections about being the mom of three children, who are now wonderful young adults.
