Out & About in Tulsa

To me, there's nothing more fun than doing art with kids. It makes me feel like a kid. Also, we all know how important it is to provide rich and varied experiences for our children.

Tulsa always has lots of opportunities for kid art activities, and there's one tomorrow at Philbrook. The Heyman Family Adventures in Art is this Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. for kids ages 6-12. You get to create a multi-textured weaving, and the cost is $5 per child or $12 for an adult and child. Philbrook also has those cool art packs for kids (in addition to the free Second Saturday every month).

Speaking of art, Gilcrease Museum is a super kid-friendly place. Too often we think of art museums as stuffy, sterile family-unfriendly buildings, but nothing could be further from the truth. Gilcrease has something for babies. Yes, infants 0-12 months. The Museum Babies 1 program is for babies and their parents to "experience" the museum. (There's nothing more interesting than 6-month-old discussing whether they prefer Turner paintings to Remington sculptures.) Museum Babies 1 is on Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. and you do need to register by calling Gilcrease.

Gilcrease's Mini-Masters meets on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. The program is for kids ages 3 to 6 with an adult. You get to explore the gallery, then do a work of art. Not only is this great fun, but you can decorate your child's room with his or her own artwork! Call Gilcrease to register.

If you want to do a little running tomorrow morning, there's a 5K and a Fun Run at LaFortune Park. The 5K starts at 8 a.m. and the Fun Run is at 8:30. The run is called The Big Freeze. Maybe when they were planning it they actually expected it to be winter weather. Anyway, the course is made a little more interesting with obstacles. To sign up, go to bigfreezetulsa.com.

If it's rainy again tomorrow, you could head over to Suburban Acres Library for a storytime and activities for kids ages 5-12. It starts at 11:15 a.m.

Finally, Homeschoolers have a special day at the Oklahoma Aquarium on Tuesday, Feb. 7.  Students are $7 and adults are $10. Just call the Aquarium to register.

Have a fun week with your family. Check our calendar for more things to do, and watch me on Good Day Tulsa, Channel 8 after 9:30 every Thurs. for more activities!
