Did you know the circus is coming to town?
My daughter is six and therefore knows everything. Just ask her. She’ll tell you. Rather, if you tell her something, she’ll say, “I already knew that.” For example, when I told her the circus was coming to town next month, she said, “I knew that.” I asked her how she knew that and she replied, as always, “I was born knowing that.” She’s so smart, I really don’t know why we bother with school.
I asked her – since she’s so smart – what she was looking forward to the most. In case you don’t know everything, she’s looking forward to seeing the tigers the most. And the clowns. Personally, I’m a little creeped out by clowns, but I’ll put on a brave face for my daughter. Then again, she probably already knows that clowns give me the creeps. Sigh.
Then I asked if she knew there were going to be dragons at the circus! Did you know there are going to be dragons at the circus? There are! And I’ll admit I caught Little Miss Know It All off guard for a split second. Because – I don’t know if you know it, but…dragons aren’t real…are they? My daughter says they aren’t and, as we all know, she knows everything.
She recovered quickly from her know-it-all foible and said, “Dragons breathe fire! Maybe they’ll light the rings that the tigers jump through!” There’s a thought. I asked her how she thought they might keep a dragon safe at the circus. She said they probably kept him in a cage because, “metal doesn’t burn.” Good point.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Dragons will be in town June 2-3 at the BOK Center. The once in a millennium event is honoring the Chinese Year of the Dragon – which makes it even more special for our family. Circus acts include Shaolin Kung Fun Warriors, Cossack riders, Asian elephants, tigers – my daughter will be thrilled – and the frenzied Globe of Steel!
I’ve even heard we’ll get glimpses of a dragon! Maybe he will light the rings for the tigers to jump through! Who knows? Besides my daughter, that is.
One thing is for sure, I’ll be there with my all-knowing daughter and I hope to see you too! Shows are Saturday, June 2 at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday June 3 at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $60 for Circus Celebrity, $45 for VIP, $30 and $22. All seats are reserved. Go to bokcenter.com for more information and tickets.
But then…maybe you knew that.

When Karen Szabo adopted her daughter Piper from China back in 2006, she didn't know she was also adopting a new passion for and interest in adoption and international adoption issues. But ever since she wrapped her arms around her sweet little girl, she's been drawn to adoption-related stories - and formed a few opinions along the way. She'll share these and write about her own experiences as an adoptive mom - and just an ordinary mom.
I saw the commercial on TV and it looks really spectacular. I don't know if we'll make it to the circus this year - can't wait to hear your report!
