Cool Family Fun at Guthrie Green
The people of Tulsa have spoken (sorry, I watched way too much of the national conventions), Guthrie Green Park is the new IT place. This weekend, families and reggae lovers alike spent atleast a couple hours at the new park in the Brady District.
I went out yesterday afternoon and was shocked by everything going on in this area. I've obviously been living under a rock (aka: just had a baby) and haven't been paying the much deserved attention to the amazing things going on. But no more! I am inspired and reinvigorated to join this awesome movement happening just north of downtown.
Not knowing what to expect, I was quite ill-prepared, but that's the cool thing about Tulsa...or Oklahoma for that matter; blanketless and snackless I was able to bounce around from smiling group to the next (some of which I had never met) offering a spot on their blanket. Probably because I looked so disheveled because I was riding solo with my two small children.
Oh, how I long to be one of those effortless mothers---casually "wearing" their baby while their toddler happily skips around. You know, the ones that look more like they are a nanny, but you know they're the mom because all of the sudden you notice their nursing their baby that never cries.
But, oh no, not me. I'm trying to navigate my stroller through the crowds worried that my baby is going to overheat. My shirt is wet--partly because I'm sweating with the extra baby weight that won't budge and partly because I'm leaking. Who really knows which is which. Either way, it's not cute. I'm too scared to put my baby in a sling because I haven't mastered it while carrying a diaper bag and holding my toddler's hand. Heaven forbid I leave the diaper bag in the car because if I were to do so, BOTH of my children would simultaneously have blow outs. When it's time to nurse it looks more like I'm suffocating my child because I'm trying to keep my humongous boob (and squishy tummy) covered. I'm all for women breastfeeding in public, but for me personally, I prefer to cover up a little.
But enough about me and my neuroses, Guthrie Green Park is the bomb.

Bravo, Tulsa, bravo!

The first years of motherhood are the most educational years of your life. Abby Rodgers shares the highs, the lows, the love and complete shock of being a new mom. She'll write what she has learned and also seek advice from you about things she has yet to figure out. Abby keeps it real with a little humor and a lot of love.
I feel you Baby Mama! I remember having a 16 month old and a newborn and feeling like checking the mail was a monumental success! By the time I was nursing baby number 2 in public I had (for the most part) mastered the knee crossed bending over with the elbow covering the muffin top nursing method. And if all didn't go well, I had pretty much just decided that if other people saw something they weren't expecting I didn't really care. When I noticed people staring, I would offer them the opportunity to change my toddler's poopy diaper while I fed my baby!
Thanks, Honeybee Mama. Good to know I'm not the only one! It's such a struggle finding an outfit that looks ok and is also nursing-friendly...oh, and fits ;).
