Thinking beyond the curb.
About 6 months ago, my sister started recycling her chipboard. At the time I wasn't for sure what chipboard was, I just knew that our curbside recycling didn't take it. I just lumped it into the cardboard category and shamefully threw it in with the rest of my non-recyables. But my sister challenged me (as most big sisters always do) to start gathering it in the garage just so I could see how much of it I actually went through.
After just one week, it was apparent to me that I was a chipboard addict. From diaper boxes to 12-packs, the chipboard was adding up.
Finally after about about a month (and a plea from my husband to get it out of the garage) I loaded it up in my car knowing that would force me to take it out to the recyling center. And since my toddler thought we should get a super early start to our day (isn't that sweet), we headed out to Shredders early this morning.
To my knowledge this is the only place in Tulsa that recycles chipboard. Here is their info:

It's a super easy transaction. Pull up to the front to tell them you're here to recycle chipboard. They'll tell you to pull around and someone is there to unload it all for you. You barely even have to get out of the car.
Make sure to breakdown all of your boxes, making them flat to take up less space. I suggest using a Tide box or something super sturdy as the base and then stuffing all of the smaller boxes into it.
It'll make you feel good to know that you're shaving some width off your carbon footprint and, as always, it's a great example to set for your children.

good to know babymama! is now the right time to confess how little i recycle? like rarely if at all? i think now that i'm working at home and have more flexibility in my schedule i'm out of excuses! off to research recycling centers in BA right now!
Harley Hollan Company at 61st and 169 takes just about anything for recycling, including carboard, paperboard and styrofoam!

@honeybeemama: I like to make a little game to see if I can always get one trashcan to the curb (instead of 2 or 3). Now seeing that on my screen, it seems a little weird.
@southerngirl: thank you! I have yet to start recycling styrofoam, but I'm on it now.
So glad to know I can recycle chipboard and styrofoam. Now my obsession can go even further. Thank you! :)
update, i officially have boxes in my garage labeled "plastic" "aluminum" and "glass". feel proud!!
