A Fortunate September Menu
Hi, Tulsa kids, moms and dads! Well, here we are in September, the beginning of school and the end of summer and vacations. September brings some unique holidays: Labor Day, Chicken Month, Grandparent’s Day on Sept. 12, Honey Month, National Wild Rice Week, Snack a Pickle Time, and Confucius Day on Sept. 29. This month’s dessert is Fortune Cookies. While fortune cookies may sound like a lot of trouble to make, they’re really pretty easy, and kids will have some fun making the fortunes to go inside the cookies. Let’s get cooking!

This month is National Peach Month, the 3rd is National Watermelon Day, and the 4th is National Lasagna Day. Also, you might want to know the second week of August is “Smile Week.” Let’s Get Cooking!

Edible Birds' Nests Three Ways
My children and I love to fill the bird feeders in our backyard and watch the local wildlife enjoying our little buffet. We’re hoping to encourage a little nest building by our feathered guests. In the meantime, here are a few edible nest ideas we like to enjoy while waiting for the real thing.

Easy, Money-saving Souper Suppers
During the holiday rush of December, I like to make double (or triple) batches of soup, stew or chowder, so I can put the leftovers into serving size containers and have them at the ready in my freezer. This makes the hectic holiday season a bit more bearable when I don’t have to think about dinner. I just pop them into the microwave for a home-cooked, healthy, quick-as-fast-food meal. Here are a few of our favorites that are perfect for freezing.
Chuck Wagon Three Bean Chili

• 1 tablespoon canola oil
• 1 pound lean ground beef, chicken or turkey
